what are the nodes requirements around free consolidation transactions?

Nothing specific. Tested on regular v1.0.5 it works just fine.

No, min 100 inputs, and min 6 block deep youngest.
You can also make txn offline, wait 6 blocks and broadcast.
both those numbers sound arbitrary if you ask me. @1649 why not with just 2 utxos and in the mempool?
You can try with 2 inputs but will probably be rejected. I think it could be lowered as well, but to prevent exploiting, like transacting around for free, I think the rule for consolidation should be single, and that is to only send inputs to same address.
