Never let anyone take away your freedom because of "the greater good."
Freedom *is* the greater good.
It is the one good upon which all other goods depend.
There is no such thing as faith, hope, charity, justice, or virtue without freedom.

Good point. The "common good" has been usurped by the "greater good," which is wholly utilitarian. The common good, however, is rooted in human dignity, which is the result of being made in the image and likeness of God. This makes us all by nature, free.
