If nanofactories were built, severe disruption to the world economy would be one of many possible impacts, though it could be argued that this disruption would have little negative effect if everyone had such nanofactories.

Amazingly, apparently mycelium networks use protein synthesis to create RNA life forms that eat rock and excrete water, among other thing. They are natures Von Neumann machines.
