This ancient ceremonial center is carved directly from large blocks of living rock and features intricate reliefs depicting monkeys and snakes. Unlike other Inca temples that were typically dedicated to celestial bodies like the sun or moon, this sanctuary honored animals considered sacred, particularly monkeys and felines.

The site is actually believed to be pre-Inca in origin, likely built by the Killke people who inhabited the Cusco Valley long before the Inca civilization rose to prominence.

I said hello to a local, he told me this site goes back into prehistory. This carving is of a puma, when the Spaniards showed up they destroyed half the face. I asked him when the monkeys where last in the area. He said way before four thousand years.
