It never happens slowly. Inflation suddenly floods when the velocity of money increases. Newly created currency is like pent up potential energy waiting to lose equilibrium and suddenly explode.

It will not be felt until the rate at which money changes hands increases. This is partly why deflation is followed by high
inflation / hyperinflation in fiat money systems. Perceived wealth effect followed by the realization that it is indeed false.
