The mind, ironically, is a very earthen spirit, so to speak. The body/mind, flesh/spirit dichotomies couldn't be any more misleading. It is the spirit of matter, not it's counterpart. It is the ally of the flesh, not its opponent. The mind is the mouthpiece of the body, the voice of the beast if you will. It is deeply rooted in the material world. It's expertise is the surveillance, analysis and simulation of the material world with the goal of survival. For those looking for God - and why would anyone not at least for some time seriously look for God? - the mind simply isn't the right tool. The mind is a scalpel made to vivisect matter. Some scalpels are sharper, some are duller, but none of them is the right tool for the job of finding God.

Looking for God with the mind is like looking for the mind with a scalpel.
