memes are not tags

they have similar powers but memes are not words theyre phrases of arbitrary length which identify an idea

they allow us to value and rank the content associated with some concept

i remember at first we called it "folksonomy" & everyone said it sounded silly & then when the same idea took off as "hashtags" nobody admitted we'd been right
