The maternal instinct to keep children from screaming, fighting and killing themselves is beautiful and important. But applied to a society of adults, it creates exactly what has been rising all around us for quite some time now: censorship, disarmament and mass-surveillance. Big Mother. Kindergarten-teacher tyranny. That is one side of it. The insane part, if you will. But it is accompanied by another side: corruption and evil. And maybe it couldn't be any different. It's not one or the other, it's both. It's archetype and conspiracy simultaneously. The kind of centralized power necessary to treat people like children creates corruption and evil by necessity. The great mother archetype, once in power, must turn into the devouring mother archetype. Concentrate power enough and the corruption that follows it like a shadow will devour everything, eventually.
