Most important, Powell is a Republican. He's been getting trashed by Democrats. If he actually wants to fight inflation, Dems are his bigger enemy. Now Treasury is moving in on monetary policy.

Another counterpoint. Even if Powell wants to help, a dovish turn might send gas prices up 20 - 40 cents in a week.
