“When I’m at the bottom looking up, the main question may not be ‘how do I get out of this hole?’ In reality, the main question might be ‘how do I get rid of the shovel that I used to dig it?”

Where is that quote from? I think it is terrible. there are so many problems with that analogy...
You do?
Maybe youve never been at the bottom looking up
Running behind so that I can stay ahead.
One could use their strength (the shovel) to cave in the walls of the hole and climb out. Don't throw away the shovel or cut off your nose to spite your face as they say. In other words stop using the powerful shovel that you control to undermine yourself.
Use the tools you already have to build a way out. Taking responsibility
I can be too literal. It would make more sense to me if I left the hole and was struggling on a long walking journey where a shovel was now useless weight but i held it for comfort. but if still in a hole looking up- a shovel is perfect tool.
The analogy at least by my own interpretation could be something like this.
The shovel is weighing you down, when you didnt realise the power in your own hands. The work and struggle within yourself of letting go of a tool that is weighing you down.
And maybe getting out of that hole with your own hands is harder, yes. But the journey in believing that you can will bring more lessons and light to your life.
