Gold is SHTF money. Good luck with your BitCoin and paper when there is no electrical grid.
None of us want S to HTF but we all believe that fire extinguishers are a good idea to have around you even if you've never used one before. That's gold.
Gold is a near-indestructible bearer asset whose value and transferrability is divorced from digital networks or Nation-States. I'm not sure how these unique properties are "worthless."
At least keep enough on hand to bribe the border guards, worst-case.

You can imagine that if a foot (measuring unit) changed 1%-5% (let's say), randomly, each year, it would be difficult to get a useful measurement.
Gold is pretty awful as money, even without an electrical grid.
For maximum utility, money needs to have a limited supply (on top of other things, of course).
If there isn’t an electrical grid how is anyone going to mine enough gold to change the total supply by even a single percent?
Gold is perfect barbarian money, which is what we revert to without electricity and modern communication.

"perfect barbarian money"...okay, I see your point.
