Critique of Pure Reason is an interesting read; especially when Kant suggests it could be wrong to lie to the axe-murderer at the door about the friend you're hiding, since he could then inadvertently run into your friend sneaking out the back.

I think that Kant had the right approach to ethics even if he may not have got all the details right. The categorical imperative is an attempt to rationalize "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Oh yes, that is definitely correct; I merely find that particular scenario humorous. Anyone who proclaims there are no universal ethics should be regarded with extreme suspicion, much like you should run for your life from those who tell you money is evil.
