1950s pennies weren't made with real copper? Just a guess.

Twetch ·

they aren't.

Twetch ·

Probably because there are no 1950 pennies made?

Twetch ·

Because in 2019 BSV exists and now for a few pennies you can immutably Twetch. Whereas in the 1950’s you couldn’t get much done for 1 penny.

Twetch ·

because 2019 is more then 1950.

They are worth more because you can no longer use 50’s pennies. They’re illiquid and non fungible. Non legal tender.

Modern pennies are 97.5% zinc and otherwise copper plated. 50’s pennies were 95% copper and otherwise zinc and tin. Presumably this changed due to fluctuating demand for those base materials and therefore production cost.

worth more compared to what? pennies lost purchase power over time, but gained physical value through inflation. my 2 cents.

can we do the what's heavier 1kg of feathers or 1kg of steel balls next?

272m 1950's Bronze Wheat Pennies were produced without mint mark. A 1950's penny is worth 15x face value.

British pre-decimal pennies were 240th of a pound. Inflation adjusted, a Sterling "New Penny" is worth 2.4x face value of a 50's penny since 1971.
