A small sacrifice that allows them to express themself - show and learn what their spirit is aligned to in the moment. Is that right? So maybe it’s safe to say that one of the things that makes this special - besides the idea of infinitely branching threads - is that people share a common interest in crypto. Specifically BSV? Only BSV? Is that correct? Is this one of the reasons why someone would choose to hold BSV? That it enables them to play this game of locking their currency of choice into posts to express themselves? Is it something like being able to play with your money in the bank instead of just leaving it there doing nothing?

yes... definitely. it also makes you more considerate in what you like. as well as allowing you to communicate the amplitude of your value, how much you like things, by the size of the lock
at scale, with lots of people locking, you can measure all content against each other and more effectively prioritize your attention

A BSV block takes roughly 10 minutes to complete globally—it equates to a block of transactions added to the blockchain by mining nodes. So the sats are locked for 10 minutes x 100 in my case. BSV is perhaps the only blockchain that allows you to lock (or send) fractions of a penny for a certain length of time, which is why metamitya uses BSV, though he also allows people an ordinary thumbs up style upvote (might only be on private threads at the moment, not sure), so you don’t have to use crypto to participate. Locking crypto is equivalent to costly signalling, however, or having some skin in the game, so carries more weight as a signal. I think this place feels better than other places partly because the founder(s) are good and generous people, and they attract similar. Plus deep dives are encouraged by the structure of the threading itself. You needn’t follow down a thread unless it interests you, keeping the user agency and engagement high. Possibly, the more populated the platform becomes the more guarded people will become, but for now, it’s both gloriously contrarian and also free of ridicule and trolling. It may also be because many (most?) of its users hold some BSV that we’re all to some extent on the same page as liberty-minded folks who don’t mind being the unpopular kids in the crypto playground 😉.

Treechat needs to be free from locking mechanism. Instead, it needs to implement micropayments for posting, for upvoting, for downvoting, and it has to show the total count of votes (up, down AND absolute up+down) per post which represents the total energy invested in the post, which in turn needs to get dynamically updated with the total count of the comments to the post and its respective voting (up, down, AND absolute up+down). That would constitute a better true and fair signaling mechanism.
