We like to think that after someone is arrested, that there's a sufficient system of checks to ensure that innocent people aren't put on trial for things they didn't do, but over time, those checks have eroded to the point that the innocent are certain to be punished. Whether they're stuck in jail, paying a fee to the bondsman, or just having their public character maligned, the system is running without sufficient checks to protect the innocent.
