How does the Leaderboard work? Sometimes I'm on there and sometimes I'm not.

Does it refresh according to recent activity? Is it weekly, daily, monthly? Each time I think I know, I then think I don't a few days after lol.

does it start over with a brand new list each day based on the prior day or is it always changing?
