Are “in-laws” differentiated “better” in the romantic languages (@2)? Like is my wife’s sister’s future husband a different word than my sister’s future husband — are they the same meta pronoun (brother-in-law)?

Suegro or suegra is father-in-law or mother-in-law respectively.

Cuñado or cuñada is brother-in-law or sister-in-law respectively.

Yes, there are words for it that don’t include the state. I’ll bet in-law only started when the state barged into marriage.

Makes sense, as English is the machine language for the human computer, and took more time to be developed, it coincided with the rise of the power of the state intruding into something that is between a man and woman
