I know the popular collection ranking looks odd, but that’s because it’s skewed by the limited number of users involved; as more users leave likes, the ranking will naturally adjust itself. It’s essentially a statistical issue stemming from a small sample size. The same thing happened here with post "Upvalues," but as the scale of on-chain content valuation grows, the initial impression will improve.

I agree with that, he figured it out before anyone else, it's legitimate. Two days ago I did the same thing and my Matrix collection is now at the top.
I used to base this Collections popularity metric solely on view counts, but views are free and device farms can skew the rankings at no cost; so now, the top priority is the number of paid likes, with collection view counts as the second priority.
The skewed number appears also to be because of liking your own work.
