Did you know that there is a pattern in historic Buddhas, great Buddhist teachers - all of them are bums.
Just look at how one historically becomes a Zen-Buddhist-student:
* one stumbles upon a buddhist monastery and starts chilling around, getting to know the area, sleeping just outside the monastery;
* eventually monks start feeling sorry for one & invite him in;
* one is now one of the students.
