It could just be condensation from the planes. I'm willing to question anything, though.

When I used to tune cars we try to achieve lamba 1 with the AFR (air fuel mixture ratio). With perfect combustion of gasoline we get 2 C8H18 (l) + 25 O2 (g) → 16 CO2 (g) + 18 H2O (g) (c).

I think that that does indeed happen quite often, but from what I've heard those contrails don't linger for any real time at all and certainly don't then start to block direct sunlight.
