Just learned about "decentering", the idea that people who are low in the intersectional hierarchy (white heterosexual men) need to get out of the center, literally and metaphorically, in order to allow people who are higher in the intersectional hierarchy (colored gay women etc) to take the center. This is interesting because it is absolutely impossible to think of a more fitting description for the last phase of a civilization than the margins pushing into the center and pushing the center out. A good mental image for what that means in real life would be barbarians taking the capital and dancing on the burning rubble - while the survivors of the falling civilization run to the hills.
