John McClane, a New York City police detective, arrives in Los Angeles with the hope of reconciling with his estranged wife, Holly, during their Christmas party at the Nakatomi Corporation skyscraper. However, instead of a reunion, McClane finds himself the sole free individual when a group of terrorists led by Hans Gruber takes over the building.
