The honeybadger thesis is bs anyway. I don't like it, but governments can shut down every fork of bitcoin tomorrow.
All it needs is making mining and using it illegal, because terrorism or whatever. Thats the end of it.
I think the only chance for early success was to get so many people to use it as cash that making it illegal would have been really unpopular.

maybe. and maybe in that case btc is a blessing in disguise bc it is a more palatable version of bitcoin that lulls the existing power structure into a greedy trance and makes the ground fertile for "the fullness of bitcoin"

Well, BTC is all about destroying Bitcoin as cash. To be any fertilizer for Bitcoin btc would probably first have to die.
Unfortunately all promises in that regard were fraudulent lies.
I have trouble seeing the success of btc as a good sign for Bitcoin.

I don't agree to the cause effect connection... I think btc will die or will have to change dramatically bc there is no fee market, but bitcoin as cash will fight and survive regardless of btc fate

I think the fate of bitcoin and the fate of btc are tied together.
If BTC dies early enough (might be already too late), people would look for real bitcoin.
If BTC dies late, the Party will have already rolled out CBDCs and possibly do a controlled demolition of BTC that will forever tarnish bitcoin as well and essentially degrade it to a plaything for nerds.
In that case screaming "that wasn't the REAL bitcoin" probably won't be enough. And all those who never touched bitcoin or BTC, which is the vast majority, will feel a significant amount of schadenfreude.
