Investors benefit from good portfolios and those are secret. It's better to know something that others don't know. Investors don't want the rest to know that they know more. Investors have to keep guessing about who is really good.

Scientists want to prove objectively to one another that they know more because scientists benefit from having more publications with more citations.

@24 Though it could be argued that the current incentive structure (or lack thereof) affects science as a market. A University physicist may want to share his discovery, a Lockheed Martin one may not.

Yes I was talking about investors and scientists as pure archetypes. In the real world there are always mixtures. A way that BTC manipulates you is tricking you into winning a know-it-all contest like a scientist even when that's not a good idea.
