This is inside the Monastery of San Francisco in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacan, Mexico. The Spanish built this in the 16th century. The spiral stone encarving was repurposed from the nearby Purepecha pyramids. It is told that they built the monastery on a sacred indigenous site. The colonialists of the world often did this to demonstrate their dominance and establish the “new tech”, in this case Christianity.
