Fair enough... But "rampant exploitation" is a rather poor phrase to use here. It assumes far too much about the circumstances involved.
I do not deny that there was "exploitation" on a certain level, which may be better categorized as manipulation.
But far too often people either refuse or are incapable of thinking in anything but sweeping generalizations, collectives, and other forms of group-condensing thought patterns.
It leads to grossly misleading statements and incorrect beliefs.
