Identifying with a group isn't the same as refusing to be an individual.

Christians, for instance, frequently speak in terms of "My Christian brothers/sisters" or "We're persecuted," without rejecting the fact that we disagree w/ each other on things.

Many people are so politicized in their thinking that they have a very narrow ability to acknowledge/appreciate the merits of tribes, groups, & communities without feeling like it forces them to endorse the policies advocated by their political opponents.

And on the other hand, there are people who feel so attached to their group identity that they don't give themselves permission to challenge their communities because they fear it would be a form of backstabbing and betrayal.

Human beings naturally form tribes based on common interests, common values, common sufferings, & other things.

Those who fear this, must learn to not equate community w/ communism.

Those who embrace this must learn to not equate community w/ conformity.
