Place a clock with only an hour hand in the center of the torus.
Place a second clock with only the minute hand inside the tube of the torus.
Now plot a point for every minute the clocks advance and you get a helix that traces the surface of the torus.

Today I noticed that the cross-section of the "spindle torus" is the Vesica Piscis, and the cutaway looks a bit like the proverbial Holy Grail.
