how long have you been a guitar tech? do you consider a difference between being a tech and a luthier?
softball question... why aren't you a luthier? I'm sure you've made at least one guitar from scratch-ish?
Real Luthiers make money by building guitars. I just do it for fun so you could call me an armature luthier but I prefer to stay away from the title until I can live up to it.
automation has taken some of the fun out of it. cnc machines to cut parts, fret jobs done by machine, etc.
fret work seems like it'd be the most difficult part. I have two guitars I like. One that cost me 100 and a nicer one. The 100 guitar came to me perfect. The nicer one I had to have fret work done on after I bought it new. Fret work is quite an art.
Almost all my machines are antiques. I have only been working on other people’s instruments for about a year. I don’t think I would enjoy building with a CNC. It seems like cheating
Here's the Moridiria Hurricane - 100 bucks. The neck radius is really flat although it's not a super thin neck.
Indeed. I am very good a leveling and crowning. I can pull life out of some old beat up frets. I have my first re-fret on my bench right now.
It’s nice to find a sweet sleeper like that. I have 3 Martin acoustics and spend all my time on the cheap one made of HPL and Richlite. It sounds fantastic
