Charity can’t do much with BTC, it will be converted to fiat one way or another.

Donated means a high probability (not a lawyer) that they're not taxed when donated by Craig & can then be used by the charity taxfree as many organisations don't tax of givings. It's a win win instead of selling it himself & then give it. They sell it.
