When I hear simulation, I think of a video-game, where you can do whatever you want and it doesn't matter.
A place where people behave like they do in Grand Theft Auto. And it seems like people are increasingly behaving like in GTA. Random violence, driving cars into crowds etc

Yes, that’s the part I struggle with in the simulation ideas too.

Of course religion can be bent in that direction, too.
The most famous example is the Nazi Heinrich Himmler, who used the Bhagavad Gita to justify atrocities.
Essentially making the case that our reality is just "maya" and murder is just a dance of life and inevitable death, and doesn't matter at all.
