We have the Genesis upgrade but the training wheels are still on.
The sybil nodes are preventing us for using any of the new functionality for Genesis, so now we must build our own tools to use new scripts, data larger than 100 KB.

This all comes down to incentives. All of the pre-Genesis tools were free, so they had no need to get ready to support standard BitCoin.
This creates a chicken/egg scenario where we need nodes (== miners) to take control of the network.
Miners have no current incentive to take this control because the users are not paying them either.
They still are lazy and passive because of the block subsidy and lack of fees.
Thus we are in limbo with great capability but no means of using it.
