The oversight in the traditional process not only refines the produce but also (ideally) trains the writer. I personally have gotten dramatic help in this way.

We have to leave space for the trial and error of “theorizing” that has not yet become “theory” https://www.jstor.org/stable/2393789

Outlets: are there alternative outlets that we should be considering? Other forms of writing? Other forms of labor? Unprofessional or professional?

The process is valuable, but are these long feedback loops sustainable with so much uncertainty and job insecurity? Especially when we acknowledge that, yes, writing and research take a long time. Speed is coupled with values of "production" & perfidious metrics.

The problem. What future am I writing toward/for? So many of these feedback loops depend upon the speed and timing of sustained institutional support (funding). Not even mentioning access to resources and travel.
