“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.”Proverbs 11:30

How do we win souls to Jesus? According to the Bible, what must one do to be saved and inherit everlasting life?

“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”Acts 16:31

First we must admit we are sinners and in need of a savior because the wages of sin is death:

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”Romans 6:23

“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”James1:15

So sin leads to death, and hell and death are synonymous in the Bible: “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”Revelation 20:14

Being fleshly humans, we are all sinners: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”Romans 3:23

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”1John3:18

We deserve to go to hell for our sins. Even lying one time is enough to condemn somebody to hell: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”Revelation 21:8

No amount of good deeds, or repentance from sins will get us to heaven. We are not saved from hell by our good works. Only faith in Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God can cleanse us from our sin, and save a soul: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians2:8-9

It is about faith and belief. Those who don't believe on Jesus Christ and who do not trust on his sacrifice and his blood, will be judged in the last day by their works: “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”Revelation 20:12

And no man's works are good enough to save himself:

“For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Ecclesiastes 7:20

Believers who trust on Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross will not be judged according to our works, we are washed by the blood of the Lamb: “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”John 3:18

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”Psalms 103:12

What must you do to be saved and to have eternal life? Admit you are a sinner, repent from unbelief to belief on Jesus Christ. Don't put your trust on your own ability to do works or to refrain from sin. Instead put all your trust on the Son of God, Jesus Christ who died for you. Confess him with your mouth and believe in your heart and you shall be saved:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”Romans10:9

It is about belief. Believe in God the Father and you will be saved from hell, but this also requires belief in God the Son.

“Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.”1 John 2:23

Jesus died and rose from the dead, and this gives us hope because believers will also be raised up in the last day.

“Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”John6:54

The Bible and God's word represents Jesus:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”John1:1

When God created all things, he spoke them into existence. He said "let their be light"Genesis1:3. Creation was spoken into existence through the power of God's word, Jesus Christ:

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”John1:3

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”John 1:14

Believe in him and his record, the Holy Bible, the Word, Jesus Christ:

"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."1 John 5:10-12

It is a choice, our free will to believe on Jesus or not. Choose life, or choose death:

“But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.”Proverbs 8:36…
