Yes. GPU miners won't be mining BitCoin blocks they will be mining transactions or large data sets rapidly looking for information that the clients request. Read this:

For someone who isn’t a miner, can you clarify. I thought the end result was a network of very large miners. Are you suggesting that smaller ones can exist with a different function?
