Bitcoin SV (BSV) stands for Bitcoin Satoshi Vision, aiming to restore the original protocol envisioned by Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. It emerged as a result of disagreements within the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) community over scaling and protocol governance.
The Birth of Bitcoin SV (2018)
In 2017, Bitcoin (BTC) faced network congestion and high fees, leading to the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) fork, which increased the block size limit.
By 2018, the Bitcoin Cash community was divided on further protocol changes. One faction, led by nChain and supported by Craig Wright, CoinGeek, and others, argued for restoring Bitcoin’s original design and removing artificial limits on block size.
This led to the Bitcoin SV vs. Bitcoin ABC hash war in November 2018, resulting in a split from Bitcoin Cash, creating Bitcoin SV (BSV).
