I was there at the beginning, was using dial up bbs before, i believe it would have been around 1992-1993ish.. email was around before internet, nightly packets were exchanged thru bbs(s) also used ham radio packet systems before net
Also used to hex edit the renegade.exe executable file for bbs system for custom login cursor position to match up ansi graphic landing page.. good times back 馃檪
Those were great days. I had just started using bbs then internet arrived. Just when I had all the AT commands memorized lol.!
Atdt brother.. ata lol
I still have a copy of the anarchists cookbook around here somewhere. Don't tell anyone 馃槈
馃槄 the memories, i remember 0 day warez, lol but a 10 mg software was split in 1.4mb sections and took hours on end, usually someone in the house would pick up the phone while downloading lol and you could hear the modem screaming thru the house lol 馃槄
bbsing caused my first run in with the law, was 13 and used pw of cosysop for bbs in kitchener ont. The sysop broke into chat, warned me, the police called me in with my father, but apparently they had no charge designed to lay on me, was a scare tactic 馃槄
Ha what can they do to a 13 year old. Ground you from using the computer maybe!
I have this vague memory of playing Duke Nukem against a friend over dialup, but I could be imagining things.
Lol this all happened when i was grounded, i took a paper lip and bent it into an o, the 386 we had had one of those old computer locks lol, parents would goto town and id play civilization and bbs until i heard car roll in lol
Was it doom or quake? Quake was a biggie for me :)
Damn you bring back memories too! I played Total Annihilation and Fury 3 a lot on PC. Duke Nukem and Quake would spaz the computer out, the graphics specs needed were to high lol. nostalgic
*cough* transportation tycoon we endes up getting a 200 mhz aptiva lol 7g at the time 馃槄
damn what computer did you have? 4866? It was remarkable what low specs DukeNukem would run on, real old school efficient code!
The Quake LAN parties were intense. That game still holds up well. (Woo-woo) 馃榿
Good point! Back then I was like 8 years old. Guess I grouped Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem in the same category of video card strength. But you I agree with you, if I did run Duke Nukem, it probably would have been fine in retrospect. No idea which model 馃槀
Sounds perfect. Civ was dangerous - I'd start playing in the morning and then suddenly it was 4am. And nothing to eat or drink in the interim! Not the healthiest lifestyle!
Civ was what got me into computers lol, my buddy across town had it, his father was teacher at university so they had good pc(s) i got hooked at his house then bugged my rents for a pc just so i could play it, got one then wouldnt get off it, civ was great
I played so much my stepmom ended up limiting me to an hour after school on computer 馃槒 but when they left i'd break out the paperclip key and get my civ on lol, and bbsing was a huge part of my childhood/early teens, remember thedraw? Ansi graphics 馃槄
