Your feeling of contempt towards the US healthcare system comes from a lack of understanding of how each component works, individually, and, as a whole. If you'd like to air your grievance further I'd be more than happy to help demystify it for you.

Perhaps I should have qualified. Obamacare has turned US health insurance into a racket.

Forcing companies to accept those with pre-existing conditions is a prime example of socialism and pushes prices through the roof. Healthy folk like me subsidize them

I agree. I have a pre-existing condition, but I realize that there are people out there willing to help, and they don't require the government to force them to do it. The only path to enduring humanitarianism is choice. #anarchy

I agree - Gov regs drive up the cost of coverage. Here's a solution:

Find a concierge practice you like and is line with your budget then apply for catastrophic ins coverage. This should lower your ins cost but you'll have to pay for general care.

If you need something like a MRI, xray, etc call around and let them know you want to pay cash but only at the Medicare allowable rate. You'll usually need to get an office manager on the line as the front office will be clueless.

FYI - The Medicare rate is usually 10x less than the standard charge
