“Patoshi” is mostly statistical backfitting.
If you stare at early mining data long enough, then draw lines after the fact, you can manufacture patterns from noise. People were testing software, hardware, GPUs, mining setups, and leaving machines on and off. The early network was messy, experimental, and small.
Later, people took the leftovers and imposed a story on them.
That does not mean there was some special code, secret hardware, or mystical dominant miner. It means people found shapes in historical residue and then treated the shapes as proof.
