The ego will use any religion or ideology as the basis for it's urge to self-identify as special. There are Christians who self-identify as "chosen" and "saved, progressives who identify as "woke", conservatives who identify as "awake", new-agers who identify as "enlightened". It's always the same theme: "look, I'm holier than thou, I'm awake while you sleep, I'm in the know and you aren't. But if everyone does what I say, I can help you, save you, get you to my level. But if you disagree with me you are a demon, ignorant, sleeping and hateful." It's always the same childish fantasy wrapped around whatever belief-system the person happens to adopt.
