I too read it too, many years ago now and found a lot of benefit from it, allowing me to have/observe thoughts and feelings without identifying with them, allowing them to pass through. It seemed to me like a 21st century version of stoicism and just as helpful. I like Rumi too and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
