Eating one meal a day is indeed a very rational and intelligent thing to do. Eating two steaks, not so much; you won't see it immediately, but you will inevitably get big problems with your gut microbiome, which is the most important factor for health.

Is this lifestyle choice easier when you are not a mom? It takes a lot of time and effort to prepare the variety of whole, real foods that I'd like my children to develop a taste for (vs. supposedly convenient but boxed or single serving packaged "food").

Twetch ·

I could probably get a lot more done simply eating pizza (or other meal) once a day and drinking coffee. Not a good long term meal plan though, as you mentioned. Eat to live, not live to eat.

Twetch ·

I have no idea whether this diet is appropriate for a mom or not. It works for me. I would recommend taking a look at the books I've listed in the notes, and if any of those appeal to you, stat there.

I got into Keto this year. It has helped almost every aspect of my life. Still need to do better but it is a start.

Twetch ·

What problem would you have with your gut microbiome? Scientists claim gut flora diversity is the best marker for health and guess what, carnivore dieters score in the highest percentile for gut biodiversity on ubiome. Go figure 😂

Twetch ·

@431

Diversity isn't advantageous in and of itself; it needs to be the correct microbes. Meat consumption provably causes the worst of the worst microbes to take hold in your gut, and will cause you to further crave meat.

I don't see how eating mass produced bleached bread products is supposed to help gut bio but I will keep that in mind. My research points to insulin resistance as the most important health factor as you age so I will 'trust my gut' on this one.

@802

Keto gives temporary symptom relief at the cost of long-term health; you're going to completely wreck your microbiome if you do it for extended periods of time. You may not believe me now, but keep this warning in mind for when things start to hurt.

@385 What I meant is that fad diets are not for children, or imho a long term plan (keto diets may yield good results in the short term). Adults can decide for themselves, but I must still invest time to plan + prep meals for kids (more than one a day). ;)

Twetch ·

@385 have you read “antifragile” ? That’s what made me start fasting intermittently

Twetch ·

@802

I never suggested you do that, so no idea where you got that from. Heavily processed monocultured crops are almost as harmful as meat to the human microbiome, but not quite. Insulin resistance is indeed the main problem, but is caused by fat intake.

These are just a couple of the main differences I see between us. I would recommend reading The China Study, and watching the movie What The Health 👍🏻❤️

Twetch ·

It is likely that you are relying on stimulants to keep your energy throughout the day which come with their own consequences.

Twetch ·

Hello Ryan, I agree the food pyramid is total bs, however I disagree with just about every point you made in this video. As humans, we do have a diet that is optimal for our species, just like every other species.

Twetch ·

Also, you do not appear to be in great health and I would guess that your level of fitness is quite low.

I believe that carbohydrates are the preferred source of energy for your body and that no athlete can preform near their best in a ketogenic state.

Twetch ·

Fasting is good, but vitamin K2 in supplement form is dangerous, as are journalists writing books on health and nutrition based on superficial, non-rigorous "research."

Twetch ·

Study of paleolithic poops reveal that ancient peoples ate way more fiber than we did today. Fiber is necessary to feed the good bacteria in your colon and is only found in plant foods. A real "paleo" diet would include a lot of plants (and probably bugs).

Twetch ·

Actually, I'd go so far as to say that books are a bad way to study nutrition as compared to just looking up studies on https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/. Of course, some books are grounded in studies, but most are just some person's pet theories.

Twetch ·

The vegan ideologies crack me up... China study was ridiculously cherry picked and debunked to death.. what the health is hilariously bad vegan propaganda. Stahp

Twetch ·

@78 I am reading Antifragile now. Watch the other video :)

Test of Taubes's theory on high-carb vs. keto diet for fat loss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJVSD0hggZE

Twetch ·

You need all macronutrients. Carbs, fats, protein. The body's preferred energy source is carbs. Your cells consist mostly of fats. It's easy to get enough protein.

Meat (especially beef liver) is a superfood. Trumps everything else in terms of nutrients.

Twetch ·

There are no essential carbohydrates ;)

Twetch ·

You don't need food at all. Some people live on sunlight.
