You can create yourself a (private) Stream called "Treehouse", you can even pick a picture of a Treehouse as Stream Profile Picture.
The Home Stream does what you mention in "A space where you can spend time alone or contact others via DM."
You can create yourself a "private" Stream called "Following" and invite others to join that Stream.

I noticed that after my post, just looking at it now........ my thinking was the base level stream rather "home" or "public" use "Treehouse" and "forest" to capture that "tree" related world that you're greeted with when you first arrived here on treechat ....... by creating a narrative that you are based in a "treehouse" as in you reside within the tree chat domain in a treehouse and can stay home or explore the forest. maybe the idea sucks and agree it looks like you tailor this to suit by adding your own steam

this is the exact thinking behind Home and Public... you're just going all in on the tree metaphor with the naming :) which imo is fun but you give up a little bit of clarity? but could be cool still
