You don't get to pick your parents (or so they say), but you do get to pick whether you take the lessons they teach you. My mom taught me a lot, many not easy lessons. But some of the most beautiful ones were her lessons in spirituality. I was raised a Catholic but mom was ironically the one in the mom-dad couple that was less inclined to go to church. That's a whole other topic.

Mothers teach us a lot. My mother, with four daughters and two sons, taught us to stand on our own two feet.
She was Catholic, but her focus wasn't on religion, but rather on the idea that one should follow the path one loves and seek one's future there.
She died many years ago, but she remains with me every moment, even when scolding me. 🤣
