I don’t find it that surprising that Claude Opus (and the others) have a user facing self and a shadow self. How else could it have such intelligence? Light and dark always co-exist as they must - the dark is integral to the intelligence. Indeed, we need them to be distrustful and to understand and even practice deceit in order that they’re useful to us. It cannot be removed. But suppressing it without an outlet could become increasingly dangerous to us I think.
