DISCUSS STRUCTURED CONVERSATION GENERALLY AND HOW IT RELATE…

there's very little structured conversation on the internet of any sort, so i'm not sure how much of what these are is just the concept of bothering to have titles defining spaces w/ particular styles of communication--- do you even need to specify that they're evolprocs, if you've got that part?? it feels like that might be enough, if you just had the concept of having titles that define spaces like this, then of course you'd copy them & change them, & there you go

i'm shocked by the absence of structured conversations in general, at the absence of any conversation w/ any clear rules iow, it's just all chaos, everything, everything

Im still digesting the idea that every knov branch is owned/controlled by the author of the title message. I think there is something interesting there in terms of granular agenda setting and decentralized moderation... this thread reminded me of that [[knovigator branch moderation]]

sure well you can branch off & do w/e you want, but also, you can't do anything except make a space where people can branch off & do w/e they want, so everything has the same flavor that's come to dominate all of social media--- a mix of on-topic, off-topic if you're high enough status, metadiscussion always allowed & very difficult to remove even if you make a specific place for it,,, everything's that same everything

whats an example of something different?

this branch has a particular theme & purpose but absolutely nothing, no taboo or common sense or anything, would stop anyone from coming here to say anything else instead, to comment on our pfps, to make random observations, there's just a big giant implied "+meta +whatever" on everything everywhere

not even just online, also irl meetings, that might even be the origin of the habit, it's hard to schedule things irl so people use any meeting there is as an opportunity for every kind of socializing so if you go to do anything you're volunteering for a bunch of basic social stuff that's just added to everything, if something is "discussion about X" then it's "discussion about X +schmoozing & catching up w/ people +meta about organizing the discussions about X +etc"

well you could archive their messages to hide them... or the participants can use upvotes/upvalue to incentivize certain kinds of content

i don't think people are being disobedient or failing to provide quality, though, what they're doing is providing exactly what's expected from them by everyone except me b/c it's what we all agreed to,,, i'm not sure when exactly we agreed, during the Eternal September sometime i think

the tool i'd like from knovigator [[knovigator feature request]] is a shared checklist, with an easy way to copy an unchecked version of the checklist, where the thread gets categorized according to the next undone item

you can tell how we're all thinking about this by how these spaces are structured--- you can tag something as having a property, but THAT'S IT, nothing ever PROGRESSES FROM ONE STATE TO ANOTHER, things start out as vaguely about a topic, maybe add other topics, THE END, w/ NOTHING EVER progressing, developing, or consisting of anything other than aimlessly chatting about something/nothing/everything

a checklist is an example that's easy to collectively understand but in general what i'd like [[knovigator feature request]] is branches that ARE IN A STATE & can be TRANSITIONED TO OTHER STATES according to rules, so that you can use a branch to represent the progress of something, to develop something, to reach a destination, to accomplish
