"Dinging dongs" (good lord, I hate that phrase...) is a negative sum game, and it does nothing to promote the production of valuable goods or services.

With the caveat that giving someone their first satoshis could help them onboard to use cases like Moneybutton and Twetch, so they can try them out.

It should be less about the ding-dong and more about sharing the experience of usage.

Agreed - that's making an example out of the experience, and I've done that many times myself.

I think most importantly, it, like everything else, needs to be purposeful.

It's just a bit of fun with reference to the smallest currency unit in Handcash beta being the Vietnamese Dong.

One upside I can think of is that it demonstrates the power/speed of BSV to new people. Getting more people genuinely interested in BSV is great. I imagine most just want free money though 🤷.

It was born in the early days after the great hashwar of 2018, out of the elation of being free from small blocks and central protocol control.
I suspect and hope the tradition will continue for quite some time.
