What is the difference between being wrong and being evil?
I think this is a crucial conversation to have amid the political and cultural strife that exists in the world.

In one word.....INTENTION

Evil most often is from people believing they have the moral authority to justify any means toward their desired ends.
The means/acts is everything in life. Screw intent

You can have good intentions and still do evil. In fact that is the best way to make people do evil things: tell them it's for the greater good.

I think in being evil you know what you do or say is wrong but you keep on doing it, while in being wrong you just don't know yet and can be convinced but maybe will never know. you are not aware of doing or saying wrong things

If I thought serving tea to someone would be good for their health and they died from it I would be wrong, not evil. If I knew the tea was toxic and I served it anyways I'm evil. Doing something for the greater good is a utilitarian argument 👎

I don't disagree with what you say, I'm just saying it's a bit more complicated.
Do you think someone with good intentions can't do evil things?

The evil is in the intent, so no.

The Nazis intended to free the world...
From their point of view their intentions were spottless. They wanted to bring an end to financial oppression and infiltration of their culture - and the world.
To me they were evil.

I suppose you could say they were wrong, instead of evil, but then I can't see how to separate the two terms.

I think the answer to this question is long and complicated.

Freeing the world was not the Nazis intent. That was the … they said to their people to convince them to do it. Name one country that started a war with good intent! The people who went along were wrong...the people with the plans were evil.

Well, if you are just going to dispute all good intentions that end in evil action this is going to be difficult...
How about eugenics?
Would you dispute their good intentions?
Or people who initiated programs to lower the population of the world?

The question we are discussing is "What is the difference between being wrong and being evil?" My answer was "INTENTION". Intention is a legal term and is impossible to confirm or deny. We infer intention from actions.

Eugenics aim at erradicating human suffering. A good intention, no?
And yet the result is the violation of other people's rights, forced sterilization, even murder.
Even with good intentions there is a line that separates wrong and evil, it seems to me.
