From Dalton Banks to Everyone 06:55 PM
ok i've heard a few people describe their memories as something like “pointer-heavy”. i definitely relate to this, and the consequence is that i'm pretty darn good at finding stuff i wrote in the past with a suitably capable search interface, and so i get a lot more mileage out of treating everything as a flat 'dump' except for ‘local’ ordering while editing. manual backlinking feels very cumbersome. i got 30 years without really having any note taking practice at all, and the big transition for me last summer was using obsidian in “brain barf mode.” this seems like a bit of a divergence point in our ‘community' so to speak. you might have seen this article but i think it's an interesting datapoint on 'searchable heaps' vs ‘curated trees’ https://www.theverge.com/22684730/students-file-folder-directory-structure-education-gen-z
