Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole antiparasitic medication used to treat various intestinal worm infections, including pinworms, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It works by inhibiting the formation of microtubules in parasites, which blocks their glucose uptake and leads to their death.

Pinworms: Typically treated with a single 100 mg dose, which may be repeated after 2–3 weeks if necessary.
Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms: Common regimens include 100 mg twice daily for 3 days or a single 500 mg dose.
Forms: Available as chewable tablets (100 mg or 500 mg) or oral suspension; it can be taken with or without food.
Age: Generally approved for adults and children aged 2 years and older.
Side Effects and Precautions
Common Side Effects: Stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness.
Serious Risks: Rare cases of bone marrow suppression (agranulocytosis), liver enzyme elevation, and severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
Contraindications: Should not be used in pregnancy (Category C) or with metronidazole due to the risk of severe skin reactions.
